Lorne
wants to be the next IAFF 6th District Vice-President,
but he can’t do it alone. He wants
to lead a team of dedicated Provincial representatives
across each Province and Territories, and
he wants you to determine who is on that
team.
As
a Provincial Representative himself Lorne
has assisted with grievances and negotiations
throughout the Lower Mainland, and Vancouver
Island since 1999. The experience has been
profound and he wants more Local leaders
to gain from that same experience.
If
elected as the next IAFF 6th District Vice-President
Lorne is committed to consult with all Locals
and with your assistance determine who the talented individuals
are and task them with
being our next leaders. Look around
you, there is a lot of talent in the 6th District. Help Lorne
assemble the greatest team the 6th District has ever had!
Lorne
will ask our General President Harold Schaitberger
to support a strong team of leaders with
training, experiences and mentor opportunities.
There is a lot of talent among our members
and we need to tap into that, mentor them
and nurture their talent so the Locals they
represent will become stronger. No Local
will be wanting for help again. With
experienced and talented individuals around every corner all Locals no matter how
big or small will know who to call and know that they will get the help they
need immediately.
We
could have as many as 10 to 20 dedicated members
across our District willing to assist us
at a moments notice. With that kind of
talent at hand, we will overcome the wage parity arguments
and we will achieve the greatest Labour
Relations successes in the history of the
6th District. While building on each of
our successes we can build on common goals
and objectives to break through the bargaining
barriers one Local at a time, one success
at a time.
We
need to mount a united front to achieve
the new pension accrual rate. Lorne was
the first in Canada to negotiate an agreement
with the Employer to achieve the new 2.33
accrual rate only three short months after
the new regulation was enacted. Together
we can turn that into reality with a District
wide and possibly a National Pension Plan
strategy.
With
Lorne as our next IAFF 6th District Vice-President
we will have a team of experts to call on
anywhere, anytime on any matter, whether it be pension,
grievance or bargaining matters, our representatives
will be the most skilled and experienced
that it is possible to achieve. The
6th District will be the strongest it can
be!
The
IAFF needs to grow in the 6th District as
well. There are far too many communities that
either have no strategy to become a staffed
Fire Department or are lost on how to.
They need help to get there. Together we can not only
gain footholds in communities like Langley
Township and Maple Ridge that rely on exclusively
paid-call members, but we can push existing
Local's community leaders to achieve standards
like NFPA 1710.
Does
your Local meet the standard? Likely not,
not many do, but working together on common
strategies we can achieve the standard throughout
the District, and watch our Union grow!
If
you want to be a Provincial Representative
or if you think you know who should be, contact Lorne
and let him know. He needs to hear
from you, who will be on that team!
